Meet the Lesson Horses

Chaco is a 26 y/o bay tobiano American Paint Horse gelding. His registered name is Leo Scottish Pride. Maggie has had Chaco since 2012, and he has been a lesson horse at Haven Hills since 2022. He is super sweet, more like a big puppy than a horse, and very smart and mischievous as well! 

He is a 3 time Reserve World Champion (2019) and a 2 time State Champion (2017 & 2018). You can follow him on Instagram at @paintofadifferentcolor. His favorite treats are Standlee apple berry cookie cubes and sour patch kids, and he also enjoys pears and watermelon. 

Meet Maggie! She’s a 24 y/o blue roan tobiano American Paint Horse. Her registered name is Magnolia Shi Shadow. She’s Sara Krieger's personal horse, but we also use her for lessons! She’s very smart, strong-willed, stubborn, and confident, making her a great teacher. She is the "boss mare" of the herd and is a strong, independent woman, but you can easily win her over with a juicy apple.

Melody is a 13 y/o bay Quarter Horse mare. Her registered name is M Dee Bonanza. She is Bella Krieger’s horse, and is also one of our main lesson horses. She’s a bit of a dork sometimes, but she’s very sweet! The Kriegers have had her since 2017. She was the reserve state champion in junior ranch horse at the 2021 Iowa State Fair. She loves all treats, so we're not sure what her favorite is!

Laredo is a sorrel grade Quarter Horse gelding, around 17 years old. Laredo is assistant instructor Ethan Krieger’s horse! He is very sensitive and sweet, and loves attention! Due to his sensitive nature, he only does lessons with experienced riders every once in a while. He loves watermelon and apple berry horse treats!
